The Winners of Go Do Good

Thank you to everyone who entered and contributed to the success of our first round of the Go Do Good initiative

Learning about all the amazing things that people were doing in the community was an awesome experience for the team!

If this is your first time hearing about ‘Go Do Good’, here’s the low down:

We’re frequently hearing about the struggles many of our community face, and this year (unsurprisingly) was no exception! While we’re not able to solve the world’s problems, anything is better than nothing, so we got the team together to think of some ways we could give back. After some deliberation, we decided to do what we do best - to provide a vehicle to someone. The only rule was that they had to tell us what good stuff that they would do with the car!

We then put together a shortlist, and asked the team from Big Buddy (a brilliant organisation we proudly support) to come in and pick a winner.

We were overwhelmed with responses and filtered through hundreds of fantastic nominations– so many fantastic nominations

This was in the hopes that they would be able to utilise it in a productive and positive way.

A well-deserved congratulations goes to Megan & Mike Lloyd, who started a community group 12 years ago called “The Gathering”. Here is their story:

"Our group is called 'The Gathering'. We are a group of people that walk alongside the vulnerable of our community, by meeting weekly in the park for a feed and korero, by sharing our home with those that are either in need of emergency housing, and/or rehab for those wanting to get clean. We also do a weekly bread run, delivering bread to those in our community who are in need. We pick up our gathering because no one has a car in the group. We have been using our vehicles for 16 years. Having a bigger vehicle means easier pickups, the ability to take groups to the beach or on trips, it would be awesome! For 'The Gathering', it's about doing life better together."

For anyone in the area, you might recognise Megan and Mike from the 'Papatoetoe Football Club', hosting weekly breakfasts to ensure there is enough food to go round. They have befriended these individuals in the community and use their time and resources to help them where possible. If you happen to bump into them, make sure you say hello!

Update!

After having the Go Do Good vehicle for about a month now, we checked in to see what ‘The Gathering’ had been up to. They have now clocked up 1,145kms since we handed the Nissan Serena over to them. They use it almost every day to assist members of ‘The Gathering’ with transport, as well as their usual Saturday korero and bread drop offs. They’ve also had the opportunity to take larger groups around for activities, with a recent trip to their local beach. Mike has said that instead of doing 3 trips with their old car, they only need to do 1. Talk about fuel efficiency!

After using their own vehicles for 16 years, we are chuffed that we can help by providing a new and larger vehicle to assist the members of “The Gathering”. Thank you, Megan and Mike for sharing your story and for allowing Go Car Finance to support your journey in helping others.
